Hong Kong History Writing Competition

Announcing the newly established annual history prize to promote the local study and recording of Hong Kong history.

Submission Deadline: 31/01/2026 (Late entries not accepted)

Prizes: 1st prize HK$7500, 2nd prize HK $2500

Open to: All Hong Kong based secondary school students, undergraduates and postgraduates. 

Language: English

Length: Between 4000 and 8000 words, excluding related references.

Topic: Any aspect of Hong Kong’s history, chosen by the writer.

The article should be previously unpublished, and submissions are limited to one article per entrant. 

Please note that material contravening the guidelines established by the Hong Kong Government for speech and publications will not be accepted.

Information to provide: Name, age, contact details and name of affiliated educational institution with evidence of student status.

Judging will take place in February and March 2026. The winners will be announced in early

April 2026 and prizes presented at RASHK’s AGM in April 2026 (date TBC).

Criteria for assessment of the writing content will include:

i. Historical accuracy

ii. Clarity of writing style

iii. Creative commentary

The judging panel will consist of 5 experienced RASHK members, including one based overseas, and will be chaired by the Honorary Editor of RASHK’s Annual Journal. The decision of the judges is final.

The winning entries will be published in Volume 66 of RASHK’s Annual Journal which will be

published in late 2026. The winning writers will be invited to present in person the articles at a meeting of the RASHK members.
